OPENING RECEPTION – OVERFLOW RADIO: Šakotayišol Nunuš Constellation
Join DiverseWorks for the opening of Overflow Radio: Šakotayišol Nunuš Constellation on Saturday, October 3, from 5-9 PM.
In collaboration with Good Medicine Indigenous Music Festival, the evening will begin with a concert from 5-7 PM, followed by the Overflow Radio: Šakotayišol Nunuš Constellation exhibition opening reception from 7-9 PM. Tickets for the concert are required and pay-what-you-wish. Both events will take place in the exhibition space at DiverseWorks Gallery at MATCH. Light refreshments will be served.
Overflow Radio: Šakotayišol Nunuš Constellation was developed in collaboration with Emily Johnson / Catalyst and local Indigenous and Native Heritage artists. The exhibition and related programming continue through October 24. The project includes talks, skill-shares, listening sessions, gatherings, an exhibition, and performances, featuring exhibiting artists Aveda Adara, Chiara “Sunshine” Beaumont, Christie “Chichi” Chafoya, Karen Navarro, Monica Villarreal, and Aryn Ward, with additional participating artists and community partners.
In conjunction with Emily Johnson / Catalyst’s world premiere of Overflow Radio in Mni Sóta Makoce (Minneapolis), we will gather in person in Šakotayišol Nunuš or “Bear Creek Town” (Houston) to listen to twelve First Nations and Indigenous authors, poets, and scholars live-broadcasting from their home territories and First Nations over 24 non-consecutive hours from October 9–12.
