Register The closer we get to something physically and spiritually the better we can understand it, what it has done for us, and what it has done to us. Starting from the Gray Street bridge with that in mind, this walking tour will slow us down along the edge of the fast lane and follow State Highway 288 from its origins to its impacts to its future. We will walk along this massive and dominating piece of infrastructure, weave through neighborhoods that have been dissected because of it, and see how the communities have grown around it. We will feel its physicality while communing with its peculiar history and deeply consider its function and impact on the city and our lives. The tour is 2 ½ hours long and will start and end at the intersection of St. Emmanuel & Gray St. (street parking is available in the area). Masks are mandatory, and comfortable walking shoes and highly visible clothing is advised – this is a walking tour along a freeway, all on city-provided sidewalks, but nonetheless, due to the presence of cars and some poor and rather inconsiderate planning decisions, the danger is inherent. MORNING EXORCISE: dancing ecologies with jas lin, organized by Antonious-Tín Bui register Saturday, March 27, 1 pm MORNING as in awakening– to our senses, our surroundings, our agency EXORCISE as in ritual– for purging the body of habitual, socialized choreographies Grounded in the principles and elements of emergent strategy, “dancing ecologies” is a collective journey through breath, guided meditation, biomimicry movement experiments, and group reflections. According to adrienne maree brown, “emergent strategy is how we intentionally change in ways that grow our capacity to embody the just and liberated worlds we long for.” What are the competencies and capacities we need to expand in a time of repeating crises? What new speeds of moving do we need to cultivate attention, depth, and trust? What can we learn from the biologically indeterminate shape of fungal networks? How can we inhabit the body in a way that honors our interdependence, that re-members what Joanna Macy calls the “ecological self which recognizes that the world is its body”? Register Join artists Lovie Olivia & Preetika Rajgariah in conversation with DiverseWorks Curator Ashley DeHoyos as part of Texas Talks Art. Texas Talks Art is a multi-institutional initiative intended to both introduce the work of artists across the state of Texas to a wider audience and to foster collaboration between local non-profit arts organizations. Taking the form of virtual 30-minute lunchtime talks, the series features 50 Texas artists and artist collectives in conversation with 50 Texas curators beginning in January 2021 and continuing throughout the year. Texas Talks Art is built on a belief in the need to work collectively to support the remarkable and diverse community of artists living and working in Texas. The series features an intergenerational roster of artists working across mediums and at differing points in their careers. Texas Talks Art encourages dialogue between arts professionals and emphasizes the broad range of concerns and questions that animate Texas-based artists.
