    ADVANCE REGISTRATION Join DiverseWorks and the Bayou City Be All Advisory Committee in the Gallery at MATCH for GENDERBUFFET - a community gathering, brunch, and think-tank. Attendees are invited to reflect on the intersection of gender and queer discourse, issues of performance and performing gender, and their own lived experiences. Admission is free; seating is limited. Advance registration requested. GENDERBUFFET is presented in conjunction with DiverseWorks' upcoming event, Bayou City Be All, an evening of performance, fashion, and music beyond the gender binary. Bayou City Be All is a community-driven project that celebrates queer and gender non-conforming traditions across Houston and beyond. Bayou City Be All features the works of six performance artists and two collectives: Black TM, Tania Breton, Junior Fernandez, iPOCA Collective, Jazmin Jett, Angel Lartigue, Isaac Reyes, and Y2K, selected from an open call. DJ HYPERFEMME is providing live beats and guest emcee B. AMES will keep the energy high and the evening moving. Join DiverseWorks and Project Freeway Fellow Matt Manalo on Saturday, October 26, 2 - 4 pm for a community get together at the Alief Art House. Matt will unveil the Alief Art House mural and invites the local community to gather and learn about future events and workshops.     A PROJECT FREEWAY FELLOWSHIP PROJECT Letters & Lives is a multigenerational writing workshop series and conversation space centering the experiences of current and past residents of Kashmere Gardens, Trinity/Houston Gardens, and Fifth Ward. Join DiverseWorks and Project Freeway Fellow Willow Curry for the Letters & Lives kick-off event on Sunday, October 27 at 3 pm, featuring spoken word poet Outspoken Bean. All Letters & Lives workshops are hosted at Mystic Lyon, 5017 Lyons Ave, Houston, TX  77020, on Sundays, 3 - 5 pm from October 27 - January 19.  Workshops are free to attend and community members are encouraged to participate in one or more sessions.

    CO-PRESENTED WITH THE HOUSTON CINEMA ARTS FESTIVAL Internationally renowned digital installation artist, Kelly Richardson, will discuss her past and recent work, including her future planetary landscape works, Orion Tide and Mariner 9. A leader in working with digital technologies to create hyper-real, highly charged environments, the artist will present clips of some of her best-known works and conduct a Q&A moderated by DiverseWorks Executive Director Xandra Eden. This free event is presented by DiverseWorks and the Houston Cinema Arts Society on Sunday, November 17, 12 pm, at MATCH as part of the 2019 Houston Cinema Arts Festival (Nov . 14 - 18).   • APPLICATION DEADLINE – THESE ARE MY PAPERS: A WRITING FOR PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP BY VIRGINIA GRISE

    DiverseWorks seeks participants for These Are My Papers, a writing for performance workshop open to artists and/or cultural workers, dreamers and peleoneras, those trans to gender and/or genre who want to explore the fluidity of time, borders and space and the insurgent possibilities of writing as a refusal to go undocumented. Facilitated by theatre artist Virginia Grise, this writing for performance workshop series with a focus on creative practice and process will be held monthly from January to April 2020 and will culminate in a public performance. DOWNLOAD A PDF OF THE CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS Grise has taught writing for performance at the university level, as a public school teacher, in community centers, women’s prisons and in the juvenile correction system. In addition to plays, her body of work includes multimedia performance, dance theater, performance installations, guerilla theater, site-specific interventions, and community gatherings. These Are My Papers is a companion piece to rasgos asiaticos, a site-specific performance and installation that will take place at Silos at Sawyer Yards in Spring 2020.
