S RODRIGUEZ: RHIZOME
Interrogating gender as a tool, and therefore a technology, in a precolonial, colonial and postcolonial state, S Rodriguez questions how it plays a role in the way one operates in society. Despite gender being something that is often assigned at birth, one can choose to continue operating within their assigned framework or abandon it for something new, just as one can upgrade or change software once a technology is obsolete or no longer serves a purpose.
Rhizome, as a performance, pushes this idea to its furthest potential, decentering humanity and gender altogether in favor of a new potential life form that could emerge from a post-capitalist survival model.
