Pepe Mar awarded Grant and Residency

pepemar Pepe Mar was recently the recipient of a $5,000 grant and a Spring 2015 residency. The WaveMaker Grant, awarded through Cannonball and supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation’s re-granting program, was awarded to Mar to help fund the creation of a two-month installation/performance in the form of a Florida gay bar. Mar also recently returned from Canada’s Banff Centre where he had a one month residency. While in residence, he received the Banff Centre’s Benediktson Grant for artistic excellence.

On the horizon for Pepe Mar is a fall residency at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York City. Mar will be in residence at the ISCP from October 1, 2015 – March 31, 2016. This residency is sponsored in part for the artist by major collectors Sherry Hope Mallin and Joel Mallin of New York.

Finally, Mar will be a participant in a group show at Miami’s Wolfsonian Museum. Curated by Christian Larsen, the exhibition takes as its central motif the philodendron. All participating artists will contribute works that will include notable artistic examples from design, fine art, and fashion that use the motif. Pepe Mar will contribute a site specific work for the exhibition similar to his installation at DiverseWorks that made use of objects found in the Menil Collection.
