Rhodessa Jones: Big Butt Girls, Hard Headed Women

This performance was part of the All the Rage II series, showcasing women in performance art. The title comes from a phrase that San Francisco theater artist and activist Rhodessa Jones heard growing up: “Sit your big butt down. Don’t be so hardheaded.” This humanizing work follows the story of 4 inmates in prison–Regina Brown, a prostitute who was murdered after her second release from jail in two years; Mama Pearl, an old-timer who has seen it all too many times; Lena, a high school valedictorian kicking her drug habit in a jail cell; and Doris, a 16-year-old who sucks her thumb and calls for her mother.
