KINDER SIGNS, CRIES, AND INCENTIVES

Houston artist Josefa Vaughan created her graphic works by juxtaposing images and excerpts from art, philosophical texts, and the work of her elementary school students, whom she prompted to “talk back to the television” by giving them actual storyboards used in TV production. The works were completed in only black, white, red, or yellow. The exhibition was accompanied by satellite programs in six elementary schools around Houston. In addition to the exhibit, the surrounding community will find Xerox copies of the same composition on telephone poles, etc., with little tabs at the bottom that can be torn off as souvenirs of an encounter with art. Coincided with the Praise God exhibit by Forrest Prince.
