James Magee: Works from 1982-91
This was a solo exhibition featuring the work of El Paso sculptor and writer James Magee. From the garbage dumps of Juarez, Magee salvaged materials for his work (cardboard, aluminum, tin, paper, glass, etc.), which become his abstractions in charcoal grey, vibrant orange, chili pepper red, and intense blue. His assemblage paintings are often accompanied by long poem titles. The exhibit and catalog were produced in collaboration with the San Antonio Museum of Art and traveled there the following February. The catalog also featured essays by the Dallas Museum of Art Director Dr. Richard Brettell and San Antonio Museum Curator Jim Edwards.
