SUMMARY:YUE NAKAYAMA: NONPLUS (SCREENING & INSTALLATION)
DESCRIPTION:Register \nJoin DiverseWorks and artist Yue Nakayama for Nonplus\, a video installation and sculptural intervention at the Water Works in Buffalo Bayou Park (above the cistern) on Thursday\, October 29 from 6:30 – 9 pm. \nBuffalo Bayou Park parking and information \nBuffalo Bayou Park Map (showing the location of the Water Works) \nThe installation opens at 6:30 pm\, and the screening will immediately follow remarks by Yue and DW Executive Director Xandra Eden at 7 pm. The film is approximately 20 minutes long and will be looped after the initial screening. Rain date: November 1. \nVideo screening services provided by Rocket Cinema. \nCOVID-19 Protocol\n\nface masks required\nsocial distancing of at least 6 feet between individuals/groups is required\ngroups attending together are limited to a maximum of 6 people\ntemperature checks and COVID-19 screening questionnaire will be administered upon arrival\nhand sanitizer will be available\nadvance registration requested\n\nAbout Nonplus\nYue Nakayama’s Nonplus is a new work that examines the idea of empathy and survival in relation to the current societal and environmental crisis. Nakayama’s work encourages us to reflect upon the interconnectedness of our belief systems\, ideas of procreation and extinction\, and empathy-related emotions connected to maternity. As environmental disasters and systemic failures of our society continue\, how do we locate and process our feelings during the time of apocalypse? Her work navigates different issues surrounding the idea of utopia and survival through an investigation of the limits and regulations placed upon our bodies and further expands to investigate ongoing environmental failures and existential anxieties. \n\nImage: Recycled Air\, 2020\, video still and photo collage.
