SUMMARY:Kristin Lucas: Screening and Performance
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, February 20\, 7 pm\nat Aurora Picture Show\n2442 Bartlett\nHouston\, TX  77098 \nFREE for DiverseWorks and Aurora Picture Show Members\n$10 General Admission – Purchase tickets online \nIn addition to a screening of several of her short experimental videos\, Kristin Lucas will perform Weird Object\, a moody monologue about a fictional object derived from snippets of online product reviews. Originally published as a pocketsize concept book titled Dollar Store Quality Piece of Scrap (2013)\, it has been adapted into a spoken word performance that is mediated through an experimental speed-reading app. \nKristin Lucas’ work explores the impacts of technology on humanity and the boundary between the technological and corporeal. In her early videos\, she frequently cast herself as the protagonist where her interactions with technology lead to isolation\, physical and mental contamination\, mutations and a diseased body diagnosed by technology. Her recent work harnesses the language and expertise of others to describe the fleeting and fraught nature of technological experience\, an alternative creation myth\, and more. \nCo-presented with Aurora Picture Show in conjunction with the exhibition What Shall We Do Next? on view at DiverseWorks through March 19\, 2016. \n
