SUMMARY:Knight & Knight: Latencies
DESCRIPTION:Artists Chelsea Knight and Autumn Knight present Latencies: a performance that is part lecture\, part dinner\, and part psychology session. \nCo-presented by DiverseWorks and Project Row Houses at Eldorado Ballroom\, 2310 Elgin. \nWe want to tell you our two stories: latent and manifest*. This is our hysterical story (hysterical in the Freudian sense)\, the story of our alliance\, our fraudulence\, our transgression\, our passive aggression\, our competition\, our sexuality (or rather hypersexuality)\, and our relation to the world\, as women. How we relate to one another has everything to do with how we relate to you\, and who YOU are defines everything\, because I am only NOT YOU\, and you are only NOT ME.  \n*In Freud\, the latent and manifest are two elements of a dream: the latent is what lives underneath the images and language in a dream\, it’s the true content of the unconscious. The manifest is the space of the everyday\, the trees and ice cream cones and conversations you had yesterday. It lies on top of the latent. To understand ourselves we must enact both\, and we’re going to do it for you. \nAbout the Artists\nChelsea Knight received her B.A. from Oberlin College and her M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Knight recently completed residencies at the Whitney Independent Study Program\, the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture\, and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace program. She has had solo exhibitions and performances at the Brooklyn Museum; The St. Louis Art Museum; Abrons Art Center\, NY; Momenta Art\, Brooklyn; Night Gallery\, Los Angeles\, and has exhibited her work in group shows including: NouvellesVagues\, the Palais de Tokyo\, Paris;Anti-Establishment\, Hessel Museum of Art CCS Bard\, NY; the Young Artists’ Biennial\, Bucharest and the Istanbul Biennial. \nAutumn Knight is a Houston-based interdisciplinary artist. Knight’s work primarily falls within performance\, installation\, and social practices that address conventions of racial and gender identity\, psychotherapy\, and art access. Knight’s performance work has been in group exhibitions at various institutions including the University Museum at Texas Southern University\, DiverseWorks Artspace\, Art League Houston\, Project Row Houses\, and Blaffer Art Museum. She is a 2013-2014 artist in residence at Galveston Artist Residency\, Galveston\, TX\, and the international AIR with UK arts organization In-Situ. She has an MA in Drama Therapy from New York University (New York\, NY) and a BA in Theatre Arts from Dillard University (New Orleans\, LA). \nSupport\nDiverseWorks and Project Row Houses are Visual Arts Network (VAN) Partner Organizations. This project is made possible in part through support from the Visual Artists Network Exhibition Residency\, which is a program of the National Performance Network. Major contributors are the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts\, the Joan Mitchell Foundation\, the Ford Foundation\, and the Nathan Cummings Foundation.
