Join DiverseWorks in welcoming mary v. bordeaux, Ed.D., Co-Founder & Co-Director of Racing Magpie, a Lakota-centric arts and culture organization located in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Houston as part of the Diverse Discourse Lecture & Studio Visit Program. The Diverse Discourse Lecture and Studio Visit Program brings curators and artistic directors to Houston to share their knowledge and ideas through free public lectures and visits with local artists.
Diverse Discourse brings curators, writers, and artistic directors from across North America to Houston to give a free public lecture and conduct studio visits with Houston-area artists. The talk will take place at the DiverseWorks Gallery @ MATCH at 6 pm on Saturday, October 17. RSVP

Houston-area artists working in all disciplines (including visual artists, writers, dancers, choreographers, and performance artists) are invited to apply through Submittable. The visiting curator will notify selected artists in early October.
VISITING SPEAKER BIO:
mary v. bordeaux, EdD (Sicangu Oglala Lakota) is the co-director of Racing Magpie, a Lakota-centric collaborative space that features a Native art gallery and studios. She is also an assistant professor in the American Indian Studies department at BHSU. She earned her BFA from IAIA and her MFA from the University of the Arts, both in museum studies with an emphasis on exhibition design and planning, and an Educational Doctorate from SMUMN. She has held collections and curatorial roles at The Heritage Center at RCIS and The Indian Museum of North America at Crazy Horse Memorial. mary combines her academic pursuits with a profound commitment to her community, advocating for Native artists and community collaboration.
ABOUT DIVERSE DISCOURSE:
Initiated in 2013, Diverse Discourse brings curators, artistic directors, and critics from across North America to Houston. While here, they present a free public lecture and conduct studio visits with Houston-area artists, performers, and writers. These visits often lead to long-term relationships and future projects, contributing to Houston’s reputation as an essential center of contemporary curatorial ideas and artistic practice. Previous lecturers have included Candice Hopkins, Independent Curator & Writer; Senior Curator, Toronto Biennial of Art, Kemi Ilesanmi, Executive Director, The Laundromat Project, New York, NY, and Christopher K. Morgan, Choreographer and Vice President of Programming – Maui Arts & Cultural Center, among others.
