DESCRIPTION:Visitor Hours: Thu\, Fri\, Sat\, 12-6 pm Closing: Friday\, September 11\, 2026 | 6 – 8 pmDiverseWorks @ 5601 B Navigation Blvd\nNUESTROWORLD is a satirical solo installation by Brooklyn-based artist Jesus Benavente. Featuring newly commissioned works\, NuestroWorld opens on Thursday\, August 13\, 2026\, transforming 5601 B Navigation Blvd\, Houston\, TX 77011 into a fictional visitor center for NuestroWorld\, encouraging guests to explore Houston beyond the gallery walls and experience the city as an amusement park. The installation will be on view through September 12\, 2026\, with a closing party on September 11. Gallery hours are Thursday – Saturday\, 12 – 6 pm. Admission is free. \nThrough satire and spectacle\, NuestroWorld examines how cities construct identity through tourism\, branding\, memory\, and myth\, inviting audiences to reconsider Houston’s past and present. The exhibition draws inspiration from pivotal moments in Houston and Texas history\, including the opening of the Astrodome and Astroworld in the late 1960s\, Selena’s iconic Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo performances in the 1990s\, and the folklore surrounding Santa Anna’s capture following the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836\, highlighting the city’s recurring cycles of ambition\, folly\, and heartbreak. DESCRIPTION:October 3-24\, 2026DiverseWorks Gallery @ MATCHGallery Hours: 12 noon – 6 pm\, Thursday-Saturday\nCelebrated for her large-scale social choreographies\, Emily Johnson / Catalyst’s newest project\, Overflow Radio is a performance\, skill-share\, planting of 1000 trees\, and radio transmission from across territories. \nIn conjunction with the world premiere of Overflow Radio in Mni Sóta Makoce (Minneapolis)\, DiverseWorks hosts an Overflow Radio: Šakotayišol Nunuš Constellation here in Houston. Over 24 non-consecutive hours\, we will gather in-person to listen to twelve First Nations and Indigenous authors\, poets\, and scholars live-broadcasting from their home territories and First Nations. We’ll pay attention to other scales\, other forms\, other knowledges. We’ll traverse together\, transcending colonial borders\, languages and time. DESCRIPTION:January through February\, 2027\nArchitects of Myths is a two-person exhibition featuring the works of Farima Fooladi and Ruhee Maknojia that explores how their painting practices can build new perspectives that shape society\, offering alternative interpretations of contemporary issues by looking at historical events and ancient folklore. Using creative survival methods\, sci-fi\, and speculative fiction\, the artists will respond to current political\, social\, and spiritual conflicts to help shape new futures.
