Marketing/Public Relations Internship (8-12 hrs/week)
Seeking interns interested in helping us with strategic communications, social media and event marketing.
• Interns perform such tasks as: creating and updating media lists, coordinating research projects, tracking and clipping news coverage, writing and editing press materials, distributing news releases, assembling media kits and various administrative duties.
• Other opportunities for involvement could include assisting with advertising and marketing collateral production schedules.
• Candidates must have familiarity with all social media platforms, including Facebook, Vimeo and Twitter, among others.
• Ideal candidates will have had several public relations classes, possess strong writing skills, and be familiar with the Associated Press (AP) writing style.
• Proficient knowledge of graphic design, print and web design software (mainly Adobe Creative Suite).
• Interns must have reliable transportation and laptop.
Development/Membership Internship (8-10 hrs/week)
The development/membership intern at DW provides needed assistance with the implementation of key development strategies and programs, supporting existing staff in the maintenance and growth of membership, earned income opportunities, and community outreach programs. This position offers unique insight into the overall operations of nonprofit membership and development operations.
Responsibilities include maintaining current membership information for visitors as well as facilitating member communication, member renewal mailings and new member solicitation efforts. The development intern will also be involved in the execution of exhibition openings and special events, and will work closely with staff members in all aspects of their work.
Prospective interns should meet the following qualifications:
• Strong organizational and communication skills with an attention to detail
• Fluency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Basic understanding of the web, use of web services and low-level web technologies
• Interest in/knowledge of contemporary art a plus
• Minor experience with the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) a plus
Some evenings if available for exhibition openings and special events
• Interns must have reliable transportation and laptop.
Programming Internship (8-10 hours/week)
The Programming Intern works closely with the Artistic Director and Executive Director, and performs a variety of tasks related to exhibitions, performances, and public programming. Such tasks include research, gallery email inquiries, relevant off-site visits, and attendance at all DiverseWorks related programs.
Prospective interns should meet the following qualifications:
• Prospective interns should have a strong academic background in art history, theater, or dance, and a devoted interest in contemporary art, issues, and visual culture
• An attention to detail and strong organizational, writing, and computer skills are required
• Creative thinker
• Experience with or interest in programming and curating
• Ability to work some evenings and weekends for events
• Knowledge of Houston visual art scene a plus
Administrative Internship (8-10hrs/week)
The Administrative Intern works directly with the Executive Director, Administrative Manager or Development Assistant, and performs a variety of roles directly related to the organization’s day-to-day operations. Tasks include working on fundraising campaign letters, writing correspondences, donor files, interfacing with public, research, and general administrative support.
Prospective interns should meet the following qualifications:
• A strong interest in contemporary art, issues and visual culture
• Ability to articulate ideas and communicate well with a variety of personalities
• Work well under pressure and with deadlines
• Be a creative thinker
• Have daytime availability
• Multitask easily
