Dara has participated in collaborative cultural production for many years including the Pink Bloque, Ladyfest Midwest Chicago, Version Fest, Pilot TV, United Victorian Workers, Spectres of Liberty and other groupings that resist being named. Equal parts sci-fi myth and forest fable, dreamy nocturne and dazzling special effect, Twilight Avenger begins with a fairytale-worthy image of a misty, moonlit forest clearing, inhabited by a majestic stag who emanates a luminous green vapour. Quietly grazing amidst the ambient chatter of other forest dwellers, our protagonist occasionally rears his head, shifting his gaze towards us.

Flickerlounge presents Jonas Mekas and his newest film, LITHUANIA AND THE COLLAPSE OF THE USSR. Forces of time, memory, change, and human will collide in Mekas’s new film. The work’s title refers to the historical time when the world watched as Mekas’s home country of Lithuania fought for independence from the stronghold of Soviet rule. With a video camera, Mekas recorded newscasts that played daily in 1991 on his television set at home. Footage includes reports of the Soviet Union’s use of ‘aggressive actions’ …
